Yesterday I looked at the need to keep statistics whilst practising and focusing that on the 100 yard and golden 8. We carry on...
" There are three swings and five games.
The fourth and fifth game - mental and management games are as different from each other as they are from the power game. They relate to:
- Mental game: fear, confidence, anxiety, aggression, determination, focus, concentration, emotional control etc.
- Management game; shot selection, skill evaluation, strategy, statistical analysis, risk-vs reward balance, competitive situation etc..
The power game- athletic ability, talent, strength, connection, rhythm, quickness, coordination, speed, release, coil and hit.
The putting game - solid, rhythm, feel pure, acceleration, smooth, simple
Short game - Effortless, positive, beautiful, crisp, rhythm, touch, soft, music, swing
Mechanics of the Short Game.
Muscles and adrenaline. - The flow of adrenaline affects muscles and the performance of muscles. There is no flow of adrenaline when you practise. This need to be considered when building a reliable finesse swing.
Dead Hands - The way to tame adrenaline is then obvious. Don't use your muscles to power your short game. Instead, let the power from the energy provided by your finesse -swing motion. If your swinging with dead hands, those muscles have only two jobs (1) to cock the wrists during the backswing; and (2) to hold on to the club.
The practise swing should allow you to feel and judge the rhythm for the swing. Make a preview swing
To do - start to build in the preview swing.
Alignment is critical. Get into the routine of proper alignment "set up" alignment, aim, body alignment and address.
Parallel left - during practise place club on ground so feet line run to target against set up. Set up body in line with aim club - turn left foot 45 degrees towards target encouraging hips to turn through impact without resistance from lower body
Summary
To do - build preview routine and practise swing visualisation.
Tomorrow - major concepts of short game
